Open to pure bred Shire Horses born in 2026

Participating Shows:  Honley, Harthill,  Emley, Arthington & Penistone

Points will be awarded according to the placings of the foal in the foal class –

(Classes may be split into filly and colt at each shows discretion).

This accumulator is open to everyone.

Class 14     SHIRE HORSE OF THE YEAR SUPPORTED BY THE SHIRE HORSE SOCIETY QUALIFYING CLASS

The Horse of the Year Show contribution for 2026 is £20.00 which is payable for each entry in Class 14

ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ENTERED ONTO THE HOYS ENTRY FORM WITHOUT THE CORRECT PAYMENT.

This class is a qualifier for the Shire Horse of the Year Championship, to be held at the Horse of the Year  Show from Wednesday October 7^th – Sunday October 11th 2026 at the NEC, Birmingham.

This class is open to purebred Shire Horse stallions, mares and geldings, 2 years old and over that are registered in, and complying with the showing requirements of the Shire Horse Society.

All Owners, Handlers and Exhibitors must be Members of the Shire Horse Society entered and exhibited in their appropriate breed classes at Penistone Agricultural Show.  All Shires must be entered under the registered owner’s name.

A Grandstand ID number will be required for the owner/handler/exhibitor and horse.

If you have not competed in the Horse of the Year Show qualifiers before, these numbers can be obtained by creating an account on www.grandstandentries.com.

Your entry will need to be completed on an official Horse of the Year Qualifier entry form.  This can be found at www.hoys.co.uk.  On receipt of your completed entry form, if your Grandstand ID numbers are not detailed, it will be held in a pending file until all of the Horse of the Year Show identification numbers are received.

The Horse of the Year Show contribution for 2026 is £20.00 which is payable for each entry in Class 14. 

The Shire Horse Society reserve the right to share your membership data with Grandstand Media Ltd in compliance with the Horse of the  Year Show (HOYS) Rules & Regulations. This sharing is for the purpose of HOYS matters to include, but not limited to, qualification or disciplinary.  For further details regarding the use of data for HOYS qualifiers, please refer to www.hoys.co.uk and www.grandstandentries.co.uk

These classes will be run in accordance with the general rules as set out in the Horse of the Year Show rule book, a copy of which can be downloaded from www.hoys.co.uk.

• Qualification will not pass below 5th place. 
• Horses must be entered in the name and ownership in which they are registered.  
• Horses should be turned out in a traditional manner, with flights. 
• Horse’s docks must be covered with a fan of hair in accordance with the Shire Horse Society rules. 
• The turning up of coats is not permitted, in accordance with the Shire Horse Society rulebook. 
• At the final and qualifiers, horses may have foot inspections carried out by a Shire Horse Society farrier and vet. Horses must be correctly shod in accordance with the shoeing standards, as detailed in The Shire Horse Society rulebook. Horses may be shown unshod. 
• Horses that are part bred or from the Grade A, B or C Registers of the Shire Horse Society are not eligible to compete. Geldings must be registered in the Shire Horse Society Non-Breeding Register and must be pure bred e.g. not out of Grade B mares, and parentage verified.

Competitors must be aged 12yrs old and not exceed 18 years old on the day of the show.

A parent or guardian must be in attendance at the show ring, please inform the Ring Steward on arrival.

The Shire Horse Society Young Handler’s Accumulator Award 2026 (No prize money)

Open to Shire Horse Society Junior Members only. Points will be awarded to the top five as follows:

1^st 5 points, 2^nd 4 points, 3^rd 3 points, 4^th 2 points, 5^th 1 point.  Junior Handlers are able to join the Shire Horse Society mid season. Points only count once membership is taken up and points will not be back dated. Junior Memberships are £15 per annum and are open to those that have not attained their 18^th birthday.

The 1^st prize winner also qualifies for the Midland Shire Foal Society Show, for the Young Handler of the year. If the 1^st or 2^nd prize winners have previously qualified, the

qualification will pass to the 3^rd prize winner.

The Highest placed handler not exceeding 16 years old on the day of the show will be awarded a plaque kindly presented in memory of Barbara Judge.

Competitors must be aged 12 years old and not exceed 18 years old on the day of the show.  A parent or guardian must be in attendance at the show ring, please inform the Ring Steward on arrival.

Class 16 .  British Ridden Heavy Horse Society Kilmannan Championship/ Equifest BRHHS

Open to horses 4 years old and over that are registered in the main British stud books of the Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk or Percheron Society at the time of qualification and must be entered in the name and ownership they are registered in.

Riders of Stallions must be 16 years or over.

The highest placed registered Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk or Percheron in an affiliated ridden heavy horse class to qualify for the BRHHS Championship/Equifest, qualification to go down no lower than third place.

Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Ridden Heavy Horse Championship to be held at Equifest. 2026 No entry fee.
