EQUINE FLU – All equines attending Penistone Agricultural Show must have been vaccinated for Equine Influenza.
The requirement for the first 3 vaccinations is as follows:
First 2 vaccinations 21 – 92 days apart;
Third booster between 150 – 215 days;
Annual booster vaccination within 365 days thereafter.
Horses/Ponies must have been vaccinated 6 months before the show but not less than 7 days of arriving at the show.
No equine should enter competitions within 7 days of an El vaccination.
Foals should commence vaccinations at 6 months old.
All owners are urged to adhere to strict biosecurity protocols at all times.
Please have vaccination certificates and passports available for random checks on the showground.
If any horse/pony’s health raises cause for concern, the show Vet will be asked to examine the animal and their decision will be final. Please DO NOT leave your horse/pony unattended whilst tethered to your box. Unaccompanied competitors must provide the Horse Section Secretary with a contact telephone number in case of an emergency.

PROTECTIVE HEAD GEAR
ALL riders of horses, ponies or donkeys (including Judges) anywhere on the Showground are now required to wear head protection (hard hat) according to the current standards for head protection for equestrian activities: All PAS015, VG1, ASTM F1163-04a onwards: Snell E2001, Snell E2016, AS/NZS 3838 2006 onwards.
Helmets must be worn with chin straps correctly and securely fastened at all times whilst mounted.
This applies to all ridden competitors, demonstrations and whilst exercising within the Showground & Parking areas.
EQUINE WELFARE – it is of paramount importance that all riders should be an appropriate size and weight for the horse/pony being ridden (within the showground).
The Society reserves the right to take further action against any competitor whose size or weight compromises the welfare of the horse/pony being ridden; this would be based on the recommendations of the on-site veterinary.

Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 4yrs and over, mares and geldings, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2022. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited.
The Series is open to AMATEURS only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration.
Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series.
This class is a qualifier for the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Final.
The Judge will not ride at the qualifiers.
The first three go forward to the final to be held at the Hickstead Derby Meeting, June 2023
Amateur definition:
The rules are as in the rulebook with the following addition that an amateur may not show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm. In addition a person classed as amateur must not be supported by a company in anyway or act as a brand ambassador whether financially or in-kind. An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current season or previous season:
Engage(d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses in a commercial capacity.
Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer’s/Trainers yard from January 1st 2022.
Riders must not have ridden any animals produced be a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season.
Horses & riders must not receive any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a SHOW in the current season.
A rider who has ridden for a Professional / Producer Trainer in the current or previous season must not have ridden horses at a show.
Any breaches of this rule will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes.

Shetland Stud Book Society Rosettes will be awarded for both Standard & Miniature Champion & Reserve, Best Foal, Best Open Ridden, Best Lead Rein, Best Gelding, Young Handler.
Classes must be confined to SPS-BS registered Ponies. Ponies MUST BE NAMED on the entry form. Society Rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with the Society or to foals eligible for Registration. Three year old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the show. In order to enter a Stallion Class at an affiliated show, Entire males aged 4yrs old and over must have an “S” number and have been successfully through either the SPS-BS stallion assessment prior to 2006 or the current SPSBS voluntary veterinary examination Ridden stallions MUST display a stallion bridle badge. In Hand entire males 2 years & over are advised to display a stallion bridle badge. There must be no colts or entire males in the Young Handlers class.
Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in In-Hand classes. Children under 12 years old on the day of the Show may not show entire males in Ridden classes. In the interests of safety, hard hats must be worn by all handlers aged 14 years or under in In-Hand classes. Exhibitors should not kneel but remain standing while in the ring. Class 32: Side Saddle Equitation CHAMPIONSHIP Open Qualifying Class – Open to Adults & Juniors
Run under SSA Rules defined in the current Members’ Handbook. Open to SSA Members and Non-Members. Members carrying their current Championship Points Cards are eligible for SSA rosettes to 3rd Adult and 3rd Junior places and SSA Championship Points. Southernden Farm offers a rosette to the highest placed Member aged under 14 on 1st January of the current year. A rosette in memory of The Late Mr R. Philpot is offered to the Adult Member and Manor Grange Stud Show Centre to the Junior Member judged to be the best turned out. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above.
Class 33: BEST HORSE or PONY RIDDEN SIDE SADDLE
Open to horses and ponies 4 years old or over: conformation & manners will be taken into consideration; horses/ponies will not be stripped. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult and Junior Members of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Cards. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above.
The Highest placed coloured exhibit ridden by a competitor aged 16rs or over (who has not already qualified) receives a Special Rosette and qualifies for the Side Saddle Final at the CHAPS Championship Show. Open to any type of exhibit. Riders/Owners need not be a member or their exhibit registered with CHAPS at the time of qualification, but in order to compete at the Championships, the Rider/Owner must be a showing member and their horse/pony registered with CHAPS before entering the final. Lead Rein competitors are eligible for this class. Leaders must be correctly dressed.

The Fell Pony Society will award a Special Breed Rosette to The Best Fell Pony in Classes 34 – 37. Owners of winning ponies to be members of the FPS. Membership cards to be produced in the ring.

Class 42: Cavernoma Alliance UK/Equifest Lead Rein – Mare or Gelding 4 years & over, not exceeding 128cms. Riders not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January 2022. To be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bridle, the lead rein to be attached to the noseband only. The winner of class 42 will be presented with a Plaque kindly presented in memory of Barbara Judge.
Class 43: Equifest 1st Ridden – Mare or Gelding 4 years & over, not exceeding 128cm. Riders not to have attained their 12th Birthday before 1st January 2022. To be shown in a suitable bridle. The Ben Goldthorpe Trophy will be presented to the highest placed local pony and rider (i.e. within 5 miles of Penistone Church). This Show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK). Affiliation No. 22-085 Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS(UK) to compete. However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and have a valid Qualifier Card.
This Show is a Qualifier for the 2023 CHAPS (UK) Championship Show – 10th to 12th August 2023. PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE YOUR 2023 QUALIFIER CARD WITH YOU. APPLICATION FOR THE 2023 QUALIFIER CARD WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM EARLY AUGUST 2022. The following classes will count as CHAPS(UK) 2023 Qualifiers 51 – 57. TGCA Breed classes are qualifiers for the Best of Breed Finals at the Traditional Gypsy Cob Association’s (TGCA) National Breed Championship Show “TOYS”.

Part Bred classes, are open to all part bred traditional gypsy cobs and are qualifiers for the part bred finals at “TOYS”. The exhibit must have one parent that is a traditional gypsy cob.
Stallions – All stallions (four years and over) in order to enter any TGCA affiliated class MUST be TGCA registered, have passed TGCA stallion evaluations and their TGCA stallion disc displayed on their bridle. Stallions and colts over the age of two, MUST be shown in a stallion bridle with a metal bit and chain lead as per the current TGCA rulebook.
Current TGCA members must present their Membership card and Qualification card to the judge in the ring for signature.
Non-members MUST receive a qualification card from the judge and have 21 days to join the TGCA and register their horse to validate the qualification. Championships
Quest for a Star Championship Inc Youngstock Quest for a Star- Traditional Gypsy Cobs
1st, 2nd and 3rd from the TGCA classes above may go forward to the Quest for a Star Championship as per below rule.
ONLY current TGCA members and horse/pony that is already TGCA registered can exhibit in this championship, if exhibit already has their Quest for a Star Qualification in particular section, they should be ask stand aside to allow members that have not yet qualified.
Membership card and Member’s qualification card (specific to that exhibit) must be presented upon entry into the ring. The Champion and Reserve qualify for the Ultimate Star Championships at TOYS.
The Greatest Gelding Award – Traditional Gypsy Cobs
The award is aimed to encourage the showing of geldings, therefore creating a market for often unwanted colt foals and enabling the creation of a network of potential performance prospects to represent the best Traditional Gypsy Cob breed in the World at the highest level.
This Award should be given to the highest placed registered Traditional Gelding.

Classes will be judged under DBS rules and application has been made to them for SPECIAL ROSETTES which will be awarded to member winners.
REGULATIONS
Entering one donkey and showing another is not permitted.
Stallions and entire colts must be properly dressed in bridle and bits with leading rein correctly attached to the bit. In ‘Mare with foal at foot’ Class, superficial blemishes of a non-hereditary character do not necessarily debar a mare from being awarded a prize. No person under the age of 18 years may handle an entire donkey (foals excepted). The classes are open to all donkeys but DBS rosettes will only be awarded to DBS members.
The ‘In Hand Champion Donkey’ at this show automatically qualifies for the relevant Championship at the DBS Annual Supreme Championship Show in August, 2023 provided it is owned by a fully paid up member of the DBS.
Where the ‘In Hand Champion Donkey’ has previously qualified, the Reserve Champion Donkey will be deemed the Qualifier A Donkey may win more than one Championship at shows but will qualify only once for the DBS Championship Show.
If the Reserve Champion has also previously qualified, the Judge will select another donkey from the In Hand Championship line up as the qualifier for the DBS Annual Supreme Championship Show.
The Donkey Breed Society Best Local Donkey Rosette. Eligible donkeys are owned by a DBS Member who lives within a 25 mile radius of the showground and we suggest that the exhibitor should wear a Blue armband ( for ease of identification). To be judged immediately following the In Hand Championship.
Class 62: BEST CONDITIONED AND TURNED OUT DONKEY – 75% condition, 25% Turnout. Conformation not to be taken into account.
Class 63: STALLIONS & GELDINGS, 4 yrs and over.
Class 64: MARE WITH OR WITHOUT FOAL AT FOOT, 4years old & over. Brood mares to be 5 years & over with own foal at foot. Foal to be judged first & to be 6 weeks or over on Show Day
Class 65: YOUNG STOCK, Colt, Filly or Gelding, 3 years old and under
Class 66: YOUNG HANDLERS, Handler to be over 3 yrs old & under 16 yrs old. The winner will be presented with a Plaque presented in Memory of Barbara Judge.
Class 67: RIDDEN DONKEY, 4 yrs old & over, (minimum age for rider 3 years). Leading rein competitors must be led by a competent Adult (18 yrs+) and rider 8 years and under. Lead rein must be attached to the noseband.
Class 61: OPEN DRIVING – Donkeys to be 4 years & over. (Providing harness & vehicle fit correctly & are safe & clean, they will not be taken into account in the judging.)
