Due to limited parking facilities ALL box drivers are obliged to co-operate with the parking stewards.
The Committee reserves the right to refuse entry to those who do not co-operate.

ALL EXHIBITORS MUST HAVE PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE
ALL EQUINES MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A LEGAL AND CURRENTLY VALID PASSPORT.
RANDOM CHECKS OF PASSPORTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE SHOWGROUND DURING SHOW DAY.
EQUINE FLU – All equines attending Penistone Agricultural Show must have been vaccinated for Equine Influenza.
The requirement for the first 3 vaccinations is as follows:
- First 2 vaccinations 21 – 92 days apart;
- Third booster between 150 – 215 days;
- Annual booster vaccination within 365 days thereafter.
- No horse/pony should enter competitions within 7 days of an EI vaccination
- No equine should enter competitions within 7 days of an El vaccination
- Foals should commence vaccinations at 6 months old.
- All owners are urged to adhere to strict biosecurity protocols at all times.
- RANDOM CHECKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE SHOWGROUND DURING SHOW DAY.
If any horse/pony’s health raises cause for concern, the show Vet will be asked to examine the animal and their decision will be final. Please DO NOT leave your horse/pony unattended whilst tethered to your box. Unaccompanied competitors must provide the Horse Section Secretary with a contact telephone number in case of an emergency.
ENTRY FEES – £8.00 (unless otherwise stated).
PRIZE MONEY – 1st – £15, 2nd – £10, 3rd – £8.00 Rosettes to 4th place. (unless otherwise stated) All prize money will be paid by BACs – their will be no cash prizes. Bank detail forms will be provided on Show Day. THE CLOSING DATE for payment of prize money is 30th SEPTEMBER 2025.
Judging will begin at 8.00am The timetable in the schedule is approximate and although the organisers will make every effort to maintain the timetable, The Committee reserves the right to make any alterations as it sees fit. The Committee reserves the right to limit class sizes if necessary.
CLASS ATTENDANCE – IT IS THE EXHIBITORS RESPONSIBILITY TO PRESENT THEIR EXHIBIT (S) ON TIME FOR CLASSES.
All stallions must be shown correctly bitted.
Children under 14 years old may not show colts (with the exception of foals) or stallions in In-Hand classes.
Children under 12 years old may not show Stallions in Ridden Classes.
PROTECTIVE HEAD GEAR
ALL riders of horses, ponies or donkeys (including Judges) anywhere on the Showground are now required to wear head protection (hard hat) according to the current standards for head protection for equestrian activities: All PAS015, VG1, BS EN 1384: 2017, ASTM F1163 04a onwards, Snell E2001, Snell E2-17, AS/NZS 3838 onwards.
Helmets must be worn with chin straps correctly and securely fastened at all times whilst mounted.
This applies to all ridden competitors, demonstrations and whilst exercising within the Showground & Parking areas.
EQUINE WELFARE – it is of paramount importance that all riders should be an appropriate size and weight for the horse/pony being ridden (within the showground). Ponies entered in childrens riding classes must only be ridden by the child that is entered to ride it in the class – A substitute rider may ride the pony outside of the ring, but they MUST be eligible in age for the class in which the pony in entered eg – Lead Rein – Riders not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January 2024. Therefore, the age of the rider applies to the rider in the ring or anywhere on the show ground.
ALL RIDERS/ HANDLERS MUST DISPLAY THEIR ANIMAL’S COMPETITOR NUMBER AT ALL TIMES WHEN EITHER RIDING OR LEADING THEIR ANIMAL ANYWHERE ON THE SHOWGROUND.
The Society reserves the right to take further action against any competitor whose size or weight compromises the welfare of the horse/pony being ridden; this would be based on the recommendations of the on-site veterinary.
Whiskers/Sensory Hairs
All equines should present with no evidence of whiskers or sensory hairs having been trimmed or removed (other than for veterinary purposes, in which case you must provide written proof from your Vet; this proof must be available at the Show if requested by a Show Official). Sensory hairs are the hard hairs located on the horse’s muzzle and around the eyes, also known as ‘whiskers’ that are used for sensation.
EQUIFEST QUALIFIER CLASSES
In order to qualify for Equifest 2026 competitors MUST have an Equifest Qualifier Card which should be signed by either the Judge/Steward or the Section Secretary. The qualification card can be downloaded from

BRITISH SHOW PONY ASSOCIATION (BSPS) Affiliation Number 686
Classes LIHS 53 & LIHS 54 qualify for the BSPS Performance Coloured Classes.
This Show is affiliated to the British Show Pony Society (BSPS) Affiliation no. 686, and all persons entering, competing, showing or otherwise taking part in BSPS Classes whether or not members of the BSPS are subject to the Rules of the BSPS including disciplinary procedures and shall be deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the BSPS.
This show is a qualifier for the London International Horse Show. The highest placed pony from the top three ponies from classes LIHS 53 & LIHS 54 (not already qualified) will qualify for the London International Horse Show. Non-members of the BSPS have seven days to complete their registration and membership to keep the qualification. If not, this will pass to the next exhibitor.
Riders in BSPS classes are required to adhere to Rule 43 in the 2025 rulebook with regard to Hat Specification.

- 1 –Tattersalls RoR Open In-Hand Show Series 2026
The rules of the RoR as published on the website www.ror.org.uk will be observed and applied in full.
Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 3yrs and over, fillies, mares and geldings. Handlers must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2025.
Horses do not need to be shod to compete in the RoR Open In-Hand class. Horses can be shown in a bitless/In-Hand Bridle. Blemishes caused through racing will be ignored.
All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force.
Handlers/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.
The first three go forward to the final at The Jockey Club RoR National Championships at Aintree, August 2026

- LIHS2 – Rising Star – Small/Lightweight Hunter –
Small/Lightweight Hunter type: Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, (Lightweight exceeding 158cms, Small Hunter exceeding 148cms, but not exceeding 158cms). Capable of carrying up to 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs). Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Small/Lightweight Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.
- LIHS3 – Rising Star – Middle/Heavyweight Hunter – Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 158cms. Capable of carrying over 89kgs (14 stone). Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Middleweight/Heavyweight Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.
- 4a – Ridden Hunter Class – Small/Lightweight Hunter. Mare or Geldings 4years & over. (Small hunter not to exceed 158cms) and capable of carrying up to 12 stone 7lbs.
- 4b – Ridden Hunter Class – Middleweight Hunter. Mare or Geldings 4years & over. Middleweight over 158cms and capable of carrying 12.7 stone but not 14 stone.
- 4c – Ridden Hunter Class – Heavyweight Hunter. Heavyweight Hunter. Mare or gelding, 4yrs old and over, capable of carrying 14 stone and over.
The Judge will ride in Class 4.
Championship for 1st & 2nd Prize Winners from Class 4
Classes 2 & 3 qualify for LIHS BSHA Rising Star Supreme Finals at the London International Horse Show, highest placed unqualified in top 5 to qualify.
Open to members and non-members, 15 yrs & over, eligible under Rising Star Amateur rules.

A results points table will run for all qualifying classes and a ‘wild card’ will be awarded to those unqualified with the highest points in each section following the final qualifier.
The Judge will NOT ride exhibits in these classes or at the Finals.
The Ridden Hunter Classes 4A, B & C – are affiliated to the Equifest Ridden Hunters qualifiers. The two highest exhibits not already qualified in each class will qualify for Equifest 2026 – The Qualification Card is available to download from the Equifest website. It is the responsibility of the rider to present the card to the Judge/Steward at the time of Qualification.

- 5 –Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Qualifier 2025
#Tattersalls RoR AMATEUR Ridden Show Series Qualifier 2025
Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 4yrs and over, mares and geldings, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2025. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited. Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series.
The Series is open to AMATEUR riders only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration.
The Judge will not ride in the qualifiers but will ride in the Final.
Competitors/handlers/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.
The first three go forward to the final at the Hickstead Derby Meeting June 2026.
Prizes – RoR rosettes 1st –4th plus Tattersalls RoR official merchandise voucher 1st £20, 2nd £10, 3rd £5, Highest placed Veteran (15+) £10.
For qualifiers held prior to July 31st, 2025, the winner will qualify for the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Special at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships on August 23rd 2025. Highest Placed Veteran qualifies for the RoR Ridden Veteran Final on the same day.
Amateur definition:
The rules are as in the rulebook with the following addition that an amateur may not show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm. In addition, a person classed as an amateur must not be supported by a company in any way or act as brand ambassador whether financially or in-kind. An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current season or previous season:
Engage (d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses in a commercial capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer’s/Trainer’s yard from January 1st, 2024. Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Horses and riders must not receive any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a SHOW in the current season. A rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer in the current or previous season must not have ridden horses at a show. Any breaches of this ruling will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes.

This class is a qualifier for the Shire Horse of the Year Championship, to be held at the Horse of the Year Show from Wednesday October 9th to Sunday October 13th 2024 at the NEC, Birmingham.
This class is open to pure bred fully registered Shires of 2 years old and over entered and exhibited in their appropriate breed classes at Penistone Agricultural Show. All Shires must be entered under the registered owner’s name.
A Grandstand ID number will be required for the owner/handler/exhibitor and horse.
If you have not competed in the Horse of the Year Show qualifiers before, these numbers can be obtained by creating an account on www.grandstandentries.com.
Your entry will need to be completed on an official Horse of the Year Qualifier entry form. This can be found at www.hoys.co.uk. On receipt of your completed entry form, if your Grandstand ID numbers are not detailed, it will be held in a pending file until all of the Horse of the Year Show identification numbers are received.
The Horse of the Year Show contribution for 2024 is £18.00 which is payable for each entry in Class 14.

The Shire Horse Society Young Handler’s Accumulator Award 2024 (No prize money)
Open to Shire Horse Society Junior Members only. Points will be awarded to the top five as follows:
1st 5 points, 2nd 4 points, 3rd 3 points, 4th 2 points, 5th 1 point. Junior Handlers are able to join the Shire Horse Society mid season. Points only count once membership is taken up and points will not be back dated. Junior Memberships are £12 per annum and are open to those that have not attained their 18th birthday.
The 1st prize winner also qualifies for the Midland Shire Foal Society Show, for the Young Handler of the year. If the 1st or 2nd prize winners have previously qualified, the qualification will pass to the 3rd prize winner.
The Highest placed handler not exceeding 16 years old on the day of the show will be awarded a plaque kindly presented in memory of Barbara Judge.
Competitors must be aged 12 years old and not exceed 18 years old on the day of the show. A parent or guardian must be in attendance at the show ring, please inform the Ring Steward on arrival.

Shetland Stud Book Society Rosettes will be awarded for both Standard & Miniature Champion & Reserve, Best Foal, Best Open Ridden, Best Lead Rein, Best Gelding, Young Handler.
Classes must be confined to SPS-BS registered Ponies.
Ponies MUST BE NAMED on the entry form.
Society Rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with the Society or to foals eligible for Registration. Three year old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the show.
To enter a stallion in any class (in-hand or performance) at an affiliated show, entire males aged 4 years and over must have an “S” number and have been successfully through either the SPSBS Stallion assessment prior to 2006 or the current SPSBS Voluntary Veterinary Examination. Ridden Stallions MUST display a Stallion bridle badge. In hand colts/stallions of two years old or over must be shown bitted and are advised to display a stallion bridle disc which are available to purchase from the SPSBS. There must be no colts or entire males in the Young Handlers class.
Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in In-Hand classes. Children under 12 years old on the day of the Show may not show entire males in Ridden classes. In the interests of safety, hard hats must be worn by all handlers aged 14 years or under in In-Hand classes. Exhibitors should not kneel but remain standing while in the ring. Hard hats must be worn by all exhibitors, irrespective of age, in ridden classes. Ridden and driven ponies must be 4 years old or over. In Ridden Classes, if a rider falls off at any time whilst in the ring, both pony and rider must leave the ring, rider dismounted, and take no further part. For Health & Safety and Insurance purposes exhibitors must remain standing whilst in the ring when showing ponies.

- 33 – The Side Saddle Association CHAMPIONSHIP Open Qualifying Class – Open to Adults & Juniors Run under SSA Rules defined in the current Members’ Handbook. Open to SSA Members and Non-Members. Members carrying their current Championship Points Cards are eligible for SSA rosettes to 3rd Adult and 3rd Junior places and SSA Championship Points. Southernden Side Saddles sponsor a rosette to the highest placed Member aged under 14 on 1st January of the current year. A rosette sponsored in memory of The Late Mr R. Philpot is offered to the Adult Member and Just So Elegant Side Saddle Hire sponsor a rosette for the Junior Member judged to be the best turned out. - 34 – BEST HORSE or PONY RIDDEN SIDE SADDLE Open to horses and ponies 4 years old or over: conformation & manners will be taken into consideration; horses/ponies will not be stripped. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult and Junior Members of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Cards. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above.The Highest placed coloured exhibit ridden by a competitor aged 16rs or over (who has not already qualified) receives a Special Rosette and qualifies for the Side Saddle Final at the CHAPS Championship Show. Open to any type of exhibit. Riders/Owners need not be a member or their exhibit registered with CHAPS at the time of qualification, but in order to compete at the Championships, the Rider/Owner must be a showing member and their horse/pony registered with CHAPS before entering the final. Lead Rein competitors are eligible for this class. Leaders must be correctly dressed.

This Show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK). Affiliation No. 25-052. Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS(UK) to compete. However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and have a valid Qualifier Card. This Show is a Qualifier for the 2026 CHAPS (UK) Championship SHOW.

Method of judging for classes 53&54
Exhibitors enter the ring as a whole class on the right rein. (Classes may be split on the go round dependent on numbers at the judge’s discretion). Exhibitors will walk, trot and canter, including change of rein and canter on the left rein before coming back to walk. No galloping on the go round. In the 128cm Performance Pony Class, NO CANTERING on the go round. NO PULL IN. In the event of a tie performance marks take precedence.
Exhibitors will perform an individual display, this must include a walk, trot and canter on both reins, a free walk on a long rein, canter circle, extension at canter (not a gallop) on one rein, and a halt. Canter transitions must be executed on the straight, (not at a corner)
No stripping, exhibitors will be asked to walk away and trot back to the judge before commencing their display. Any suitable bridle, including a Micklem bridle, flash or grackle, nosebands etc, and a correctly fitted running martingale can be used. Coloured or plain brow bands can be used. Bit-less bridles and Running Gags are not permitted.

- Existing TGCA members that qualify MUST present their qualification card to the Judge IN THE RING and MUST have already completed the Cobs name and registration number PRIOR to the Judge signing.
- Non-members that qualify SHOULD receive a non-members qualification card from the Judge in the ring and have 21 days to join the TGCA and register their horse to validate the qualification.

TGCA – QUEST FOR A STAR CHAMPIONSHIP – TRADITIONAL GYPSY COBS
1st, 2nd and 3rd from the TGCA classes above may go forward to the Quest for a Star Championship as per the following rule: ONLY CURRENT TGCA MEMBERS AND HORSE/PONY THAT IS ALREADY TGCA REGISTERED CAN EXHIBIT IN THIS CHAMPIONSHIP. Membership card and Members qualification card (specific to that exhibit) MUST be presented UPON ENTRY INTO THE RING. The Champion & Reserve qualify for the Ultimate Star Championship at TOYS.

TGCA Breed classes are qualifiers for the Best of Breed Finals at the Traditional Gypsy Cob Association’s (TGCA) National Breed Championship Show “TOYS”.
Traditional Classes are open to all traditional gypsy cobs.
Part Bred classes, are open to all part bred traditional gypsy cobs and are qualifiers for the part bred finals at “TOYS”. The exhibit must have one parent that is a traditional gypsy cob.
Stallions – All stallions (four years and over) in order to enter any TGCA affiliated class MUST be TGCA registered, have passed TGCA stallion evaluations and their TGCA stallion disc displayed on their bridle. Colts/Stallions over the age of two, MUST be shown in a stallion bridle with a metal bit and chain lead as per the current TGCA rulebook.
Non-members MUST receive a qualification card from the judge and have 21 days to join the TGCA and register their horse to validate the qualification. The Greatest Gelding Award – Traditional Gypsy Cobs
The award is aimed to encourage the showing of geldings, therefore creating a market for often unwanted colt foals and enabling the creation of a network of potential performance prospects to represent the best Traditional Gypsy Cob breed in the World at the highest level.
This Award will be given by the Judge to the highest placed registered Traditional Gelding. The Judge will award this within the classes/championship.
